CASTING CALL: Star Trek: The Continuing Mission

August 28, 2007

NOW HEAR THIS!

A few weeks ago a good friend and fellow Star Trek enthusiast, Andy Tyrer, asked me if I would be interested in working with him on a new audio Star Trek production. We discussed the project at length and many hours later had hammered out in generalities what we wanted.

I took on the role of co-executive producer and began working with Andy on the pilot episode, characters and what we wanted this show’s vision to be. We are now ready to cast our 8 characters, the command crew of the new Trieste class, USS Montana.

We are looking for adult voices. This show is being produced by people with audio and film production experience. The writing, which has so far been a collaboration or singular effort of Andy and myself is also the work of experienced and dedicated scribes. To top it all off we the producers have the Star Trek enthusiasts at our core fuelling the whole enterprise!

Visit our site at WWW.CONTINUINGMISSION.COM

We are looking for 8 main cast members to fill the boots and voices of the crew of the USS Montana. Crew members include Captain Paul Edwards, Commander Darius Locke, Lt. Commander Thomas Plumber, Lt. Commander Jack Maguire, Doctor Kyle Wilson, Lt. Stephen Knight, The beautiful Lt. Numi Natusukov, and Helmsman Ensign William Palmer…

See www.continuingmission.com/crew.htm for details about each crew member!

We are looking for guest stars for every show, so even if you are not interested in becoming a series regular or you read for a part and we don’t choose you chances are you will be asked to come back in a guest starring role!

Be a part of the NEXT Star Trek series!

Apple Doesn’t License the Use of the term “Podcast”

November 30, 2006

I was extremely excited to learn today that my former podcasting co-hort Dave Gray has received a reply from Apple after he sent them a cheque in attempt to license the use of the word “podcast.”

This whole situation started when Dave sent a cheque with a letter to Apple Computer Corp. some weeks ago. The cheque was made out for 1 Australian dollar and stood for every time the word podcast was used in relation to the Global Geek Podcast. It would count for a penny, so it served to license the word “podcast” for use both in the Global Geek Podcast show title and the amount of times it is mentioned on the show.

The cheque was returned to Dave with the following statement from Apple (Click for Larger Image):

I am really pleased as the former co-host and co-founder of the Global Geek Podcast for Dave to get such an official acknowledgment from Apple. This is a victory for the podcasters in everyway. It is nice to know that, as of this time, Apple has no intention of trying to stop people from using the word podcast! I think it’s really mature of Apple to respond, knowing the power of the blogosphere and podosphere.

This latest turn of podcasting copyright folklore ties into the whole new Leo Laporte notion of calling podcasts “netcasts.” Beginning at the Portable Media and Podcasting Expo is September of this year. The “Netcasts you love from people you trust” bumper playing at the beginning of TWIT.TV podcasts is certainly looking like overkill with Apple’s “new” position on this matter.

It looks like podcasters and those who use the word can breathe a sigh of relief today and I am really pleased to say it is in part of the efforts of Dave Gray and the Global Geek Podcast and I extend my official congratulations to him for spearheading this victory.

–Now who was it who first coined the word blog? When are they going to get upset and start threatening people with suits?

Surprise Guest on YeastRadio – It was Me!

November 10, 2006

madge-weinstein.JPGI woke up yesterday morning to my Skype ringing on the Thinkpad. I was absolutely amazed that someone would be calling me at 7:20 in the morning and went to answer it. To my surprise the caller was a conference between the famous Podshow Podcaster Madge Weinstein and one of her cohorts recording for Yeast Radio!

Although it was 7:20 in the morning I answered the call anyway and for about 20 minutes shot the breeze with Madge. We talked about just about Podshow, If I was gay or not and Dodge Ball. It was fun. The audio quality was a bit shit at times but other than that I think it’s a good listen.

I had never listened to Yeast Radio before, although I have heard Adam Curry mention it many times on his show and been preview with Adam’s listeners to the recorded arguments between himself and Madge Weinstein.

Thanks again Madge for calling and you’re welcome to call back anytime, I promise to be more awake if you call between 9AM and 11PM my time!
