Attack of the Microsoft Mice…Or are they Just Spying?

December 6, 2006

FooBarI just saw this great post on the Global Geek Podcast blog which to pass up talking about would be akin to committing a crime. Eboy has released a poster called ‘FooBar” which is a picture that shows the internet but not in the form of computers, network hubs, modems and wires but actually shows a symbolic representation of what the internet is like. The poster is a chaotic city that is everything the internet is at this time save a few, most notably, eBay is not represented as far as I can see. This poster can only be described as, extremely deep and extremely intuitive on the part of the artist. Not only does it seem to show some of the rivalry that goes on between the various marketing agendas of these companies, but it also has the feeling of laughing at the entire notion. Only someone who is in the thick of Web 2.0 will understand this poster…

When you examine the poster you will start to see countless references to the websites that you as web 2.0 community members use and sign in and up to every day, Some 31 companies are shown as far as I can see, which is also the opinion of Dave Gray as he has labeled all the companies on a Flickr image of the poster.

For the sheer fun of it and my interest in symbolism I went ahead and labeled my own version of the poster. I added my amusing home truths rather than the labels for the companies. Below are the links to both versions of the poster with the callouts. Just watch out that Microsoft Mouse doesn’t try and stop you from getting there and derailing their plans!
