Happy Birthday to the World Wide Web!

November 14, 2006

BalloonsToday is a very special day. Today is the 16th birthday of the World Wide Web! According to this Slashdot article today, the oldest, least recently modified website was last edited on the 13th of November 1990! How freaking incredible is that! On the 13th of November 1990 I was only four years old.

When you check out the link to the old site you will find it is a page with a simple definition for what a link is. The oldest website isn’t anything but a bit of text, but it’s a website all the same.

While we are on the subject of things that are incredible, check out the following. Does anybody remember the movieShort Circuit?” Hopefully these machine guns don’t fall in love and dismantle cars or I am really going to start to worry!
